Joint Venture Assessment
Engagement: Evaluation of a potential partnership between two technology companies. A Software as a Service (SaaS) application provider considering a joint-venture/cross-licensing engagement with a SaaS contents provider requested an assessment of the opportunity. Assessment covered the following key areas:
- Needs analysis to facilitate a technology integration
- Existing respective partnerships
- Respective license rights and extendibility of cross-licensing
- Assessment of term sheet
- Assessment of potential integration costs
- Assessment of potential technology integration
Outcome: Investigation uncovered issues with intellectual property license rights and platform incompatibilities affecting integration cost. Assessment averted further costly investment of the client’s time and resources.
Program Management
Engagement: A pilot project to leverage an existing hardware platform in developing and launching internet-voice and internet-security appliances. A major hardware manufacturer engaged for supplemental program management resources to augment their internal staff, in order to meet aggressive launch timelines.
Client requirements encompassed:
- Product launch management and coordination of First Article Inspection
- OEM contracts management and project-level Statement of Work development
- Sustaining support plan development, demand forecasting, and lifecycle management
- Cross-functional project coordination
- Serving as primary program interface for engineering, legal, compliance, manufacturing, and sales and service teams
Outcome: Initial engagement was delivered on-time / on-budget…… proof of concept was determined successful, and the program was therefore approved to continue. Due to the efficiency and quality of execution, the client determined that it was more cost effective to continue outsourcing program management for this program, and the engagement was extended and expanded over multiple years. Over 100 OEM products have since been brought to market for this client, under the management of a CheckOp Senior Partner.
